Create a New Project

DefectWise offers four different types of project structures for your convenience. Each of the project types set some default options to best suit the use case. The information below will explain these project types and provide the steps to create a new project.

Project Types

The Project Type controls fields displayed within the system and controls default sorting of export PDF and DOCX reports.

1. House

This project type is best suited when the premises for capturing defects is a single property with a single address.

  • Lists have a single field [Description]
  • Reports are sorted by list [Description]

2. Townhouse or Duplex

This project type is best suited for premises that have multiple freestanding buildings or separate fixed addresses within a single complex.

  • Lists have two fields, [Address] and [Description]
  • Reports are sorted by [Address] then [Description]

3. Apartments or Units

This project type is best suited for a single building that is configured with multiple residences within the building in a tradition apartment or unit structure.

  • Lists have three fields, [Floor], [Dscription] and [Address]
  • Reports are sorted by [Floor], Description] then [Address]

4. Office

This project type is best suited for commercial office buildings spread over multiple floors and/or buildings.

  • Lists have three fields, [Floor], [Dscription] and [Address]
  • Reports are sorted by [Floor], Description] then [Address]

Steps to Create a New Project

  1. Click the Create Project button (or the orange + icon on mobile)
  2. Select the Project Type that best aligns with your requirements.


  3. (Optional Step) For Project Types other than Houses, select the number of units/offices to generate a list for. These can be modified after the project has been created.


  4. Enter the Project Details


  5. Click Create or Save. When the project has finished being created, the project page will load.
