2FA – Which app should I use on Android?

Getting Google Authenticator

We recommend Google Authenticator – it’s free, simple, and works well with DefectWise and links codes to your account for cross-device access.

Download Google Authenticator from Google Play

Setting it up

  1. Install and open Google Authenticator.
  2. When you turn on 2FA in DefectWise, scan the QR code using the scanner built into the app (tap the + button, then Scan a QR code).
  3. The app will start showing you a new 6-digit code every 30 seconds – type the current code into DefectWise to finish setting up.

A note on backups: Google Authenticator can save your codes to your Google Account, so you don’t lose access if you get a new phone. We’d recommend turning this on – in the app, sign in with your Google Account under the sync option. Without it, losing your phone means losing your codes too, and you’ll need to contact us to get back into your account.
